Refill stations and sustainable zero waste shops around Leeds
With more shops opening up and more freedom being granted, I thought I’d do a roundup of refill stations and eco shops around Leeds. OK, so I’m probably most excited about the bars and restaurants opening up but these places are awesome places to peruse!
Even if you’re not into the whole refill station thang or never tried it, I definitely recommend having a gander just for the experience. If you find that there’s one local to you, it could be part of your new shopping routine - a lovely wholesome weekend errand.
If you are thinking about making changes to your day to day to be more sustainable, Facebook is an amazing resource to find likeminded groups with lots of information. When posting in the Leeds Zero Waste Facebook Group I got lots of info on the refill stations and ethical shops around Leeds. Unsurprisingly the majority seem to be in the city centre but it looks like there’s loads popping up all over, doing a range of different things!
Leeds City Centre
Panda Refill Shop Located in Kirkgate Market, this little shop has a refill station, ethical bits and bobs and a load of vegan sweets and chocolates!
Adam and Eco This little eco shop is reopening today (12th April)! Located on the top row of Kirkgate Market, you can get all of your plastic free shampoo bars, soaps and moisturisers as well as a few ethical gifts.
Millies The nearest shop to me and I love it, it’s a refill station, health shop, smoothie bar AND they even do beauty treatments. Could definitely enjoy a treat yo self day there.
Ecotopia Another city centre refill plastic free shop. Check out their Terracycyle scheme, you can take hard to recycle goods like crisp packets on your next shop and they’ll do the rest. They’ve also started a ‘pay it forward scheme’ If you want to thank a group of Leeds based keyworkers, simply add a special treat to your cart and they’ll send out a hamper at the end of every month!
Leeds Refills As well as their refill stations and ethical products, the owner also offers carbon negative delivery and offers advice and consultation for new ethical companies for free! An all round good’un.
Seagulls Reuse These guys had an innovative idea to collect and sell unwanted leftover paint around Leeds, they even offer a bespoke mixing service. Paint is their bread and butter, but they do have a fully stocked eco shop and refill station. Love this add on to the list as it’s a little artsier than the rest, they even offer mosaic workshops!
Refilling Station Your answer to plastic free shopping in Chapel Allerton AND they even have a shop in Harrogate, fancy!
Refill and Go A refill station for all your food, health and beauty needs, they also have swap and go schemes for books and clothes!
Cleen Bees Eco Refill Station Kitted with a refill station for your dried foods and household detergent. They also sell locally sourced handmade soaps and bee inspired gifts.
Scrap Stuff This one’s a social enterprise, focused on helping the environment by reusing waste materials from businesses and reusing them for art and play. If you’re a school, individual artist or business, check them out!
Zero Muda Horsforth’s first refill store! Food, wines, oils, health and beauty products, you name it! They also invest their profits back into the local community, all round good guys.
Like Nana Did ‘Helping the wonderful area of Otley and surrounding areas reduce waste’ love that little strapline, refill stations for groceries and household goods are sold here along with some ethical gifts.
Original Way Shop An ethical plastic free popup shop at Wetherby Market! A bit different to the others in the list but worth a mention if you’re hitting the markets soon, they’re back at Wetherby Market 17th April! It's also worth mentioning they have an online shop too.
I’m sure there’s plenty more of these shops out there, if you know any more comment below or message Artful Sonder so we can add them to the list!
Happy shopping, Artful Sonder xoxo
